cities, where we offer Japanese and foreign publications, stationery, apparel
and other products for personal use. A key competitive advantage of Maruzen
is our operation of stores configured to meet market needs by offering a
distinctive merchandise mix that goes beyond a basic bookshop format: we
operate large stores with vast floor space in major metropolises, community-based
stores in station buildings, and high-grade stationery specialty shops in
department stores.
In a project that is attracting tremendous attention, in 2004 Maruzen will
open Japan's largest comprehensive bookstore in Tokyo's Marunouchi district,
Japan's premier business center.
In 1995 Maruzen launched Maruzen Internet Shopping, Japan's first full-scale
online ordering service for foreign and Japanese books (Japanese-language
access only). At this time, this service is available only to customers
